Repair diary: 212 days in a Transit Shell

Ama rides 14 km a day as a cycle courier. Her shell came back to us with one torn pocket, one tired zip and a lot of stories.

Ama Mensah has worn the same Transit Shell almost every working day since February. When it came back to the studio, it had covered more than 3,000 km.

What we found

One pocket bag had torn where a phone kept catching the edge, and the main zip puller had lost its coating. The seam tape, the cuffs and the hood were still sound.

We replaced the pocket bag with a heavier cloth, fitted a new metal puller and re-proofed the shell. Total time on the bench: 48 minutes.

I stopped thinking of it as a jacket. It is just part of the bike now.

Every repair like this one feeds back into the next pattern. The SS26 pocket bag uses the heavier cloth as standard.
