Inside the Porto workshop

Twenty-two people, forty-one machines and a family that has been sewing outerwear since 1974. A visit to the place where every Pyrane shell is made.

The workshop sits on a quiet street twenty minutes from the river. From the outside it could be a garage. Inside, it is the most precise room we know.

Seam tape by hand

Every waterproof seam on a Pyrane shell is taped on a hot-air machine by one of four specialists. It takes about two years to get fast, and much longer to get perfect.

We do not rush the tape. If the tape fails, the whole jacket fails.

We visit four times a year, ride the new samples around the city with the team and argue happily about millimetres.
