A dirty shell breathes less and beads less. Washing it is good — as long as you skip the habits that strip the coating.

The five-minute routine

Close every zip and Velcro tab. Wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle with a technical wash or a small amount of mild liquid detergent. Never use fabric softener; it clogs the membrane.

Rinse twice, then tumble dry on low for twenty minutes. The gentle heat reactivates the water-repellent finish.

When water stops beading

Bring it to the studio. We re-proof shells for free, along with any repairs, for as long as you own them.
